Amos Johnson, AMC’s road racing team leader throughout the 1970’s, is coming to tell us about the glory days of campaigning American Motors products and whooping everybody else’s tail, even when forced to run with restrictor plates to give all the “big three” boys a chance!Already gone from this world are so many of the legendary personalities that made AMC a truly exceptional organization, but Amos is still here and his stories are jaw-dropping, inspiring, hilarious, and all great examples of what made American Motors stand out as not just another player in the car business, but the truly greatest underdog there ever was.And we’ll see Amos reunite with the Nürburgring #2 ‘79 AMX, too!If you love AMC, you definitely cannot miss this opportunity!
2. The day has finally come to get our first look at the AMC documentary, The Last Independent Automaker!Our AMC community has been helping to fund this project, the passion of creators Joe Ligo, Pat Foster, and Jimm Needle, and now it’s time to see the fruits of all our dedication.Split into six episodes for airing on Public Television and viewing on other services, we will have a drive-in movie arrangement to view the first 30-minute episode, followed by a special collection of “deep cuts” archival footage, interview extras, and other special features exclusively for our AMO2024 convention audience!
3. On top of all the AMC fun, visiting a new town is always interesting, but especially when you come to Petersburg, Virginia!This little-known area has been the scene of immense importance all throughout American history.The 2^nd earliest English settlement, the penultimate battles of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, and crucial moments in the Industrial Revolution and the Civil Rights Movement, all happened right here.In addition, a resurgence in recent years has made it a foodie paradise with lots of unique cafés and shops to discover.Do you agree that great cars and great music just go together?A local gem, the classic rock tribute band Hendrix Forever, will perform a live concert just for AMO2024.And to wrap it up, our awards banquet keynote speaker will be Virginia’s own old car hobby leader and legislative advocate, classic car TV show and Podcast co-host, and diehard AMC guy, Tom Cox.
4. The best part is YOU!You know that feeling when you’re getting into the Convention town and start to spot other AMC’s driving around; when you have those philosophical, often late night, parking lot conversations around an opened hood with Rambler friends from coast to coast; on show day displaying at the Concours and brightening the eyes of local folks young and old as they see our awesome cars and learn about the magic of AMC; and seeing great longtime friends and making new ones; finding the best parts and deals with AMO swap meet vendors; oh, and the cars, from the thriftiest Gremlin to the meanest AMX.You and your AMC are important parts of the event, we need YOU!
